Bible Study

In this Pocket Truths Bible Study, we shall attempt to answer the following questions, not according to the theology of man, but the written Word of God, the Bible as each verse is understood  in the setting or context in which it was written.

1 •  What purpose did GOD create us
   for?
2 •  Was there anything wrong with man when GOD created him?
3 •  At what point did sickness and disease come into existence?
4 •  Then who or what causes sickness and disease?
5 •  Is sickness, disease or debilitating handicap any glory to GOD?
6 •  Is GOD happy when we are sick?
7 •  Has GOD provided a way for us  to live in health?
8 •  Is GOD happy when we are well and happy?
9 •  Is GOD's healing now only history?

Outline For The TEACHER

1. Importance of Right Understanding of Why God made us.
2. The Bible provides for health and healing from mankind's beginning
3. Overall Weight of Scripture
4. Many healings by God in the Old Testament and through Jesus Christ in the New
5. We best obey and reflect God through healthy bodies

To the serious student of the Bible:

It is important for you to always read not only the verses quoted in any Bible Study, but also to read those
verses just before and just after the quoted verses to be sure the person giving the Bible study has correctly
applied those verses in the way God and the original author intended that they be used. Many false doctrines
are based on the use of verses without regard to who wrote them and why they were written. You will avoid
confusion by a careful study of the Bible for yourself.

Samuel M. Smith

What purpose did God create us for?
In the beginning, God created man in His likeness and image to reflect His honor and glory in the earth, just as we go to the photographer and have our likeness made so others not present with us can see what we are like to a measure. If you live your life with this thought constantly before you, then you see that good health belongs to you. God is not sick nor less than perfect. If you are continually sickly or have a disease, you hardly reflect His glory! Therefore, He wants to give you His health for His own glory and honor. To be a mirror image reflecting His greatness, power, love, truth, honor, His perfection and glory in the earth. The moon sheds light enough at times that one can read a newspaper by its light, yet it is not really the light of the moon we see, but the reflected light of the sun. So, too, our bodies as well as our spirits should reflect God in the world.
Was there anything wrong with man when God created him?
When God created mankind, there was no disease or sickness. The Bible says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them,” (Genesis 1:27). “And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good…” (Genesis 1:31). There was no genetic flaw, no sickness nor disease involved in mankind’s life at that point.
At what point did sickness and disease come into existence?
It was man’s own sin and turning away from God that brought sickness and death. God had commanded Adam and Eve what they should and should not eat in the Garden. When they disobeyed, first their own guilt and shame caused them to attempt to hide from and cover themselves from the sight of God. In turn, God declared the curse of death upon them and that they would thereafter have to work hard to
overcome thorns and thistles and earn their livelihoods by the sweat of their face. (See Genesis 3:17-19).
Then who or what causes sickness and disease?
We know that it is Satan, the thief, who comes to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10) and it is he who hates mankind because we were created in the likeness and image of God. I have absolutely no probem with the scientific, medical discovery of what we commonly call "germs" which may be bacterial, fungal, protozoan or viral. Directly or indirectly, I contend that these are but either the actual demons or at the least tools of the demons of disease. If then, sickness is an attempt of Satan to destroy us or make us ineffective as soldiers of our Lord Jesus Christ, then what should be our reaction to sickness? "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7).
Is sickness, disease or debilitating handicap any glory to God?
What are you like when you are sick? Are you cheerful and happy and just bubbling the praises and goodness of God? If you are like most people, you feel miserable and your face and actions show it. Therefore, you are not at that time able to obey, "For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:20). Nor "Whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and [even] the Father by Him." (Colossians 3:17). When you do obey "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you," (1 Thessalonians 5:18), notice it is not "for" the sickness you are to be thankful but even "in" sickness give thanks for the opportunity to glorify God by testifying of overcoming Satan's effort to destroy you. You could not have a testimony of overcoming and victory if there was no battle or testing.

Is God happy when we are sick?
From the very beginnings of mankind's history God has always provided a means to stay well or cures for sickness, disease and injury. (Further expansion of this heading with more scripture will soon be added.)

Is God happy when we are well and happy?
While Jesus was on earth, it is recorded that “He healed all that came to Him.” (See Matthew 8:16; 12:15; 14:14; 15:30; 19:2; 21:14; Mark 1:34; 3:10; 6:5; 6:13; Luke 4:40; 5:15; 6:17; 6:19.) These verses refer only to great numbers of people being healed. Many more scriptures tell of individuals that Jesus healed.)  In Isaiah 53:5, we are told, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed.” A very important consideration of health is a full and proper understanding of just who you are and why you are alive on earth. You are a created son of God, especially if you have been born again. God created us in His likeness and image to reflect His greatness, power, love, truth, honor and glory in the earth. To be a mirror image reflecting His perfection and glory. So our bodies as well as our spirits should reflect God in the world. And by world, we do not mean only the physical world, but the people of the world. A right relationship with God results in a person being kind to his dog, cat, sheep, cattle and his neighbor as well.
Has God provided a way for us  to live in health?
Early in man’s existence, God specified those things which His people should do to enjoy good health. The commandments of Moses deal considerably with proper eating and hygiene which seemed to many to be just a matter of religious ritual without real meaning, but today, it is being discovered that the proper foods, properly prepared and proper hygiene are major factors in maintaining good health.

Since sickness is not a part of God, we should learn to command sickness, as a manifestation of Satan’s power to be gone from our bodies so that we may reflect the health of God. If you live your life with this thought constantly before you, then you see sickness and ill health must leave you! For far too long it has been preached and taught that if you are sick, you must just learn to accept it as suffering that will somehow help you to become spiritual. While it is true that the Psalmist David said, “Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I have kept Thy word.” (Psalm 119:67). And indeed, there are times when God may permit sickness, disease or injury to come upon His children, either to prove to Satan that the Christian loves God for who He is rather than for the benefits he receives from serving God, or to bring an errant child back into line or to enrich his faith in the loving and caring Fatherhood of God.  Our other option is to call the doctor, the pharmacist or race to the nearest Emergency Room.
As the Israelites left Egypt and began their journey to the promised land, God proclaimed, “…For I am the Lord that healeth thee,” (Exodus 15:26), showing that God was concerned for their health and well-being. Later, when God had told Moses He was angry enough with Israel to destroy them all and make a great nation out of Moses descendents, Moses countered with a reminder to God that the unbelieving nations would then mock God as not one to be trusted because He brought them out of Egypt to destroy them. (See Exodus 32:9?12.)
Why God would give us instructions on the use of a gift that He did not intend to give to us?
We now ask, "Why God would give us instructions on the use of a gift that He did not intend to give to us?" In the lesson, on the gift of the Holy Spirit. We have dealt at length on the validity of the Bible and on the various manifestations of the Holy Spirit as outlined in the Bible and the proper usage of those gifts. Most of the confusion we have is caused by man-made doctrines and is not at all confusing if every scripture is read in the context and setting in which it was written.

Now, let's move on into the question of why God would instruct us how to receive healing for our physical bodies if He did not desire that we trust him for our healing. At this point, let me say that if your faith is not strong enough to trust God for your healing when you are in pain, or someone you love is in pain, I do not condemn you for seeking medical help. I have seen much reproach on the Gospel in cases in which parents refused to take a sick child to receive medical attention and the child subsequently died or was taken from the parents’ custody. If it was, in fact, God’s plan to take that child to be with him, no doctor on earth could prevent His will from being done. but parents who believe as I do that our healing was bought and paid for even before our salvation need not be afraid to take their child to a doctor if healing is not manifested within a reasonable time and early enough that the doctor will not wag his finger under your nose and say you neglected your child, or worse yet, killed your child through neglect. What I am saying is, friend, be sure your faith is in the perfect will of God and be careful not to bring a reproach on his name!

Back in Bible days, homosexuals were to be stoned to death along with murderers and adulterers and habitually disobedient children, so if a person trusted God for healing and the child died, it was no crime. But today, sodomites and adulterers are everywhere and demand rights, murderers can be back on the street in a few years if they are not acquitted on some legal technicality, but you dare not pray in school nor fail to do all that society says you must do for your child — and heaven help you if you happen to bruise a disobedient child!

The Bible is filled with both instances and promises of healing for the body going back to Old Testament times. The children of Israel were promised that if they would listen to the word of the Lord and obey it, He would not bring the diseases upon them that He had brought upon the Egyptians, "For I am the Lord that healeth thee," (Exodus 15:26) Psalm 103:3 says, "Who forgiveth all thine iniquities who healeth all thy diseases;" in the context of "Bless the Lord, oh

my soul, and forget not all His benefits:" (verse 2). My own favorite verse is found in Isaiah 53:5, “ But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed.” (There are many more scriptures.)

The Apostle Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 12:9 that along with faith, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is: "The gifts of healing by the same spirit."

The Apostle Peter reaffirms Isaiah 53:5 in 1 Peter 2:24, saying that "by His stripes ye were healed." If Peter had any knowledge at all of Jesus, if Peter knew Jesus better than your pastor, then listen to what Peter says. As always, go back and study what the context of that scripture is. See that it is written to believers and that he is telling us to follow the example of Jesus. How can we deny that the Roman cat-o-nine whip was laid on the back of Jesus when it says He was scourged? He bought and paid for our health and healing even before He died on the cross to pay for our sins.

Finally, let us see the method God has specified for healing by His power to take place. We already know that Jesus said that “Believers” should lay hands on the sick and that they should recover, in Mark 16:18. Finally, in James 5:14, we read, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”
It does not say to lay your hands on the radio cabinet or run across the country to some “healing campaign.” But it does say to call for the elders of the church and have them lay hands on you and pray, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. This does not say that really, the oil is medicine and the Elders of the church are doctors, as I recently heard one minister say. Rather it is “…the prayer of faith” that “shall save the sick and the Lord,” not

some doctor, “shall raise him up.”
Again, I ask you, "Why would God tell you how to use a gift if He did not intend to give it to you?” If you are attending a church which merely has a form of godliness and denies the power thereof, do yourself a favor, obey the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, and then find one that still believes God’s Word in its full context.

Is GOD's healing now only history ?   I recently heard a preacher on the radio say that all of those scriptures are past tense and that they no longer apply. I have also heard for years that those scriptures were all to the Israelites. Well, then, let’s see what Jesus said to the Apostles. First of all, let us note that the earthly ministry of Jesus was one of almost continual healing of the sick and casting out of devils. His preaching actually did less to bring followers and took secondary place if you look at the results of the healings that He did. As a direct result of His preaching and teaching, He ended up with only eleven close followers and only something over 500 when He ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives. Of the 500, only 120 were in the upper room in obedience to His word on the day of pentecost. But of the healings, it tells of "multitudes" coming to Him, "And He healed them all," in a number of verses.throughout the four gospels. The Gospel of Mark is especially rich in telling of the healings performed by Jesus. Even in His sermons and scripture readings, He referred to healing. Example: Luke 4:18 where He quotes from Isaiah that prophecy which says in part that He would "heal the broken hearted..." recovering of sight to the blind." Please read that whole verse in its context at your convenience. At the end of His earthly ministry, after having performed perhaps thousands of healings, Himself. He told the Apostles that believers would "Lay

hands on the sick and they shall recover." Mark 16:18(b. Earlier, when He had sent seventy (70) of them out on their own to minister two by two, one of His commandments was, "And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, "The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you," (Luke 10:9).

Another concept we need to realize is that we are on earth to glorify and honor God. There is plenty of scripture to prove that Satan is the father of sickness and death and that the gift of God is eternal life which begins when you become a truly “born again” new creature in Christ Jesus. Like your old sin nature has passed away, so too, your ill health should also be allowed to die and the new creature in Christ Jesus should reflect Him not only in godly living habits and lifestyle, but also in your health!

In the late 1990’s, we hear much talk about HMO’s.  Health Maintenance Organizations are groups of doctors, hospitals and pharmacies which are linked through an insurance-type plan to provide for the health maintenance of all who join and pay their membership dues. It is very like having an accident and health insurance policy except that the care providers are supposed to be more available and the necessary care more accessible to members than to the general public.
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the premier HMO! If we read or listen to His Word, we will be protected from harm, danger, injury and disease as will glorify Him.

What about the martyrs? They died from severe persecution almost too horrible to describe. People have been beaten and burned at the stake, fed to lions and other ravenous beasts and tortured in many other

ways for the name and cause of Christ, and the Bible, in the Beatitudes, assures that those who are persecuted for righteousness sake will, indeed receive a great blessing for withstanding such persecution. But according to church history and the writings of many early Christians, some of whom were martyred, many who were persecuted wanted to become martyrs so they would receive greater blessings, or so they thought, and deliberately went out of their way to be persecuted even to the death, not because of their real love for Jesus Christ, but to be persevcuted and martyerd for His name’s sake, and thus were selfishly seeking recognition for what they had done rather than trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary.

What is the function of a HMO? While they do provide the money for their members to be taken care of in a hospital and certain prescription drugs and operations are covered by the varioius HMO’s, there are limits and, of course, they try to encourage their members to do things and eat things which will keep them healthy without their having to spend money on drugs, operations or hospitalization.

HMO's encourage members to get plenty of rest. Overexhaustion is known to be a cause for many people getting sick. Whether they work too hard at preaching and sharing the Gospel or earning their living or at doing whatever they please for themselves.

HMO's also encourage activities and lifestyles promoting peace, because people who feel tense, angry, upset or are holding a grudge are many times more likely to get sick with all sorts of ailments. Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. A person who is filled with His Holy Spirit, has the supreme confidence that “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to  His purpose,” (Romans 8:28). They know that if they will seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all the other material needs will truly be

supplied. (See Matthew 6:33). The know that they can cast “…all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you,” (2 Peter 5:7).

Eating of the proper food and taking in the vitamins and minerals that give a balanced source of nourishment is a scientifically proven and firmly established means of improving and maintaining health. HMO’s urge their members to eat right, since they know that doing so will reduce the money they have to pay out and a more profitable investment for their investors. Of course, their motive is saving money on health costs to the organization, but our Lord Jesus Christ has no such constraints because He really owns it all anyhow. He dearly loves each and every one of us and does not want His children, in his beloved bride-to-be to suffer, be crippled, sickly or in ill health because very few people can give heartfelt praise to Him when they are in that condition. If a person feels that the reason they are sick or in ill health it is to glorify God, it does exactly the opposite. He wants every human on earth to love and worship Him and who would knowingly want to worship a god who would make them be sick? Thus, we find He has given very specific rules about washing of our hands, overall washings and baths, and every seventh day in which all work was totally prohibited. He also ordered the quarantine of those with leprosy and certain other ailments or diseases and what rules of what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. In 1998, one of the newest medical recommendations is the careful and frequent washing of hands to prevent colds and viral flu.

While some HMO’s may try to cut corners and skimp on the quality of the medications they provide, most administrators of HMO’s realize that the longer their member-patient does not fully recover, the longer they will keep having to treat them, so wisdom calls for use of the very best medicine. As the Great Creator, our Lord Jesus Christ knows exactly what is wrong with us at any moment and He also both knows the cure and has prescribed and paid for the treatment. (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). Why do so many many of His followers distrust Him for their healing and health?

Deuteronomy 32:39
2 Kings 20:5
2 Chronicles 7:14,15
Psalms 6:2
The following is from the Foundations Firm Sinday School Quarterly Book 2  (Also incomplete as of this date.)

If you are a real, Holy Spirit-filled Christian, a truly born-again child of God and you want to be healed of any sickness that may be in your body right now, and to remain in good health until God is ready to call you home to be with Him, it is vitally important to remember why we exist and who we really are. We were created and exist to glorify and honor God in all ways. He gets no glory in most cases if His faithful children are sick or diseased, and therefore, we have a right on that basis to claim His healing and health. Furthermore, we each are described as a “temple of God,” and “temple of the Holy Spirit” as well as being joint heirs with Jesus Christ and Sons of God. Again, in that position, we can rightfully claim good health and healing from God. And thirdly we are given many promises like to the Children of Israel “For I Am the LORD that healeth thee,” (Exodus 15:27). And as Christians in Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24 we are told that Jesus bought and paid for us to be healed by the lash of the Roman whip across His sinless back.

Another point to remember is who it is that comes to kill, steal and destroy. Satan hates every human being on earth because all of us are made in the likeness and image of God, Satan’s arch-enemy, so even the most wicked and Satan-serving person on earth is still a target of Satan’s anger at God. Even Satan worshippers are not exempt from his devilish attacks and they do not have Jesus on their side to help them to defeat  Satan. Therefore, sickness is always brought on by Satan, though God may pull back His hand of protection and allow Satan to put some sickness or affliction on a person for whatever reason He chooses, as our Maker and Kind and Loving Father. He has that right, but we know that Romans 8:28 says, “For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

INTRODUCTION:
We never really enjoy being sick, crippled nor even in feeling the blahs. When we are not well, we are no glory to the great God who created us. How can you, as a soulwinner, invite someone to love, trust completely and serve someone who makes you sick or does not do everything to provide healing and health to you? But God does provide for the maintenance of our health and also for healing when we are sick, depressed or injured. In fact, He loved us so much that when He “…became flesh and dwelt among us…” (John 1:14) He suffered the Roman lash upon His back to pay the price for our healing.

I. FOR WHAT PURPOSE DID GOD CREATE US?
In the beginning, God created man in His likeness and image to be a mirror image reflecting His perfection, His greatness, power, love, truth, honor and glory in the earth, just as we go to the photographer and have our likeness made so others not present with us can see what we are like to a measure. So our bodies as well as our spirits should reflect God in the world. And by world, we do not mean only the physical world, but the people of the world. If you live your life with this thought constantly before you, then you see that good health belongs to you. God is not sick nor less than perfect. If you are continually sickly or have a disease, you hardly reflect His glory! Therefore, He wants to give you His health for His own glory and honor.
The moon sheds light enough at times that one can read a newspaper by its light, yet it is not really the light of the moon we see, but the reflected light of the sun. So, too, our bodies as well as our spirits should reflect God in the world.

2. WAS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH MAN WHEN GOD CREATED HIM?
No!

3. AT WHAT POINT DID SICKNESS AND DISEASE COME INTO EXISTENCE?
It was man’s own sin and turning away from God that brought sickness and death. Although Satan did deliberately tempt and mislead Eve, the responsibility to obey what God had said belonged to Adam and Eve. Therefore the responsibility for the curse upon all their descendents to this day also belongs on their shoulders. God had commanded Adam and Eve what they should and should not eat in the Garden. When they disobeyed, first their own guilt and shame caused them to attempt to hide from and cover themselves from the sight of God.(See Genesis 3:1?19.)  In turn, God declared the curse of death upon them and that they would thereafter have to work hard to overcome thorns and thistles and earn their livelihoods by the sweat of their face.

4. IS SICKNESS, DISEASE OR DEBILITATING HANDICAP ANY GLORY TO GOD?
Another point to remember is who it is that comes to kill, steal and destroy. Satan hates every human being on earth because all of us are made in the likeness and image of God, Satan’s arch-enemy, so even the most wicked and Satan-serving person on earth is still a target of Satan’s anger at God. Even Satan worshippers are not exempt from his devilish attacks and they do not have Jesus on their side to help them to defeat Satan. Sickness is always brought on by Satan, though God may pull back His hand of protection and allow Satan to put some sickness or affliction on a person, such as Job, for whatever reason He chooses, as our Maker and Kind and Loving Father. He has that right, but we know that Romans 8:28 says, “For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Since sickness is not a part of God, we should learn to command sickness, as a manifestation of Satan’s power to be gone from our bodies so that we may reflect the health of God. If you live your life with this thought constantly before you, then you see that sickness and ill health must leave you! For far too long it has been preached and taught that if you are sick, you must just learn to accept it as suffering that will somehow help you to become spiritual. While it is true that the Psalmist David said, “Before I was afflicted, I went astray, but now I have kept Thy word.” (Psalm 119:67). And indeed, there are times when God may permit sickness, disease or injury to come upon His children, either to prove to Satan that the Christian loves God forwho He is  as with Job, rather than for the benefits he receives from serving God, or to bring an errant child back into line, as with David, or to enrich his faith in the loving and caring Fatherhood of God.  Our other option is to call the doctor, the pharmacist or race to the nearest Emergency Room.

5. IS GOD HAPPY WHEN WE ARE SICK?
In Isaiah 53:5, we are told, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed.” If God wanted us to be sick, He would never have undergone the pain of the Roman lash on His back to buy our healing! He truly loves us and wants only the best for us.

Finally, let us see the method God has specified for healing by His power to take place. We already know that Jesus said that “Believers” should lay hands on the sick and that they should recover, in Mark 16:18. Finally, we read, “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him,” (James 5:14, 15).
Rather it is “…the prayer of faith” that “shall save the sick and the Lord,” not some doctor, “shall raise him up.” If you are attending a church which merely has a form of godliness and denies the power thereof, do yourself a favor, obey the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, and find one that still believes God’s Word in its full context.

7. IS GOD HAPPY WHEN WE ARE WELL AND HAPPY?
While Jesus was on earth, it is recorded that “He healed all that came to Him.” “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick,” (Matthew 14:14). You are a created son of God, especially if you have been born again. God so loves each of us that He became flesh, dwelt among us, and suffered the Roman lash for our healing before dying for our salvation. There is plenty of scripture to prove that Satan is the father of sickness and death and that the gift of God is eternal life which begins when you become a truly “born again” new creature in Christ Jesus (See Romans 6:23). Like your old sin nature has passed away, so too, your ill health should also die and the new creature in Christ Jesus should reflect Him not only in godly living habits and lifestyle, but also in your health! A right relationship with God results in a person being kind to his dog, cat, sheep, cattle and his neighbor as well.
The Apostle Paul declares that along with faith, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is: “The gifts of healing by the same spirit."   (1 Corinthians 12:9).
The Apostle Peter reaffirms Isaiah 53:5 in 1 Peter 2:24, saying that "by whose stripes ye were healed." If Peter had any knowledge at all of Jesus, if Peter knew Jesus better than your pastor, then listen to what Peter says.

SUMMARY:
The Bible is filled with instances and promises of healing for the body going back to Old Testament times. As the Israelites left Egypt and began their journey to the promised land, God proclaimed, “…For I am the Lord that healeth thee,” (Exodus 15:26), showing that God was concerned for their health and well-being. Near the very end of the Bibvle, in James, we have the commandment that if we are sick, we should call for the elders of the church to anoint and pray for us for our healing. Everywhere in between we see evidence of God’s loving concern for those who love, obey and trust Him. And if we do not close our eyes to the fact, He is a loving Father who at great expense bought us the best health insurance possible. To go to any other doctor is a clear lack of trust and a slap in His face.
Why would God instruct us how to receive healing for our physical bodies if He did not desire that we trust him for our healing? At this point, let me say that if your faith is not strong enough to trust God for your healing when you are in pain, or someone you love is in pain, I do not condemn you for seeking medical help. I have seen much reproach on the Gospel in cases in which parents refused to take a sick child to receive medical attention and the child subsequently died or was taken from the parents’ custody by government authority. If it was, in fact, God’s plan to take that child to be with him, no doctor on earth could prevent His will from being done. Parents who believe as I do that our healing was bought and paid for even before our salvation need not be afraid to take their child to a doctor if healing is not manifested within a reasonable time, early enough that the doctor will not wag his finger under your nose and say you neglected your child, or worse yet, killed your child through neglect. What I am saying is, friend, be sure your faith is in the perfect will of God and be careful not to bring a reproach on his name! He told the Apostles that believers would "…Lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.”  (Mark 16:18 b). Earlier, when He had sent seventy (70) of them out on their own to minister two by two, one of His commandments was, "And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, "The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you," (Luke 10:9).
Back in Bible days, homosexuals were to be stoned to death along with murderers and adulterers and habitually disobedient children, so if a person trusted God for healing and the child died, it was no crime. But today, sodomites and adulterers are everywhere and demand rights, murderers can be back on the street in a few years if they are not acquitted on some legal technicality, but you dare not pray in school nor fail to do all that society says you must do for your child — and heaven help you if you happen to bruise a disobedient child!I recently heard a preacher on the radio say that all of those scriptures are past tense and that they no longer apply.
In the late 1990’s, we hear much talk about HMO’s. Health Maintenance Organizations are groups of doctors, hospitals and pharmacies linked through a membership insurance-type plan to provide for the health maintenance of all who join and pay their membership dues. It is very like having an accident and health insurance policy except that the care providers are supposed to be more accessible and the necessary care more accessible to members than to the general public.

Are we Evangelical? Fundamental? Pentecostal? Apostolic? We claim all of these in the sense of maintaining total Biblical integrity of the things we teach and preach. For this reason, we use the term Bible Apostolic. We seek to be totally correct according to the Bible maintaining careful contextual and cultural understanding as well as known strengths and weaknesses of any given writer who, while inspired by the Holy Spirit, was still forced to communicate using the language, culture and known understandings of his day and place. So we are Bible in the sense that everything we say and do is intended to fully align with solid, indisbutably Bible teaching when understood as the writers and first hearers and readers of the Scriptures would have understood them. So we are Evangelical in efforts to reach the whole world with the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are Fundamental in that like the Church of Christ motto, we speak where the Bible speaks and leave the rest alone. We are Pentecostal because we both see the promise as continuing as long as the Lord our God shall call mankind to Himself and we have experienced speaking in tongues and other manifestations of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We are Apostolic in the sense that we are urgently trying to reestablish original New Testament Apostolic teaching, preaching and life.
