TURBULENCE
Turbulence!
Have you ever been flying in a big airliner when the chime sounded and the Captain’s voice came on the speaker:

“Ladies and Gentlemen: Please fasten your seat belts. We are about to encounter some turbulence for the next fifteen or twenty minutes.”

And do you remember the bouncing and shaking of the airplane that perhaps even frightened you? There have been cases in which aircraft have been lifted hundreds of feet upward as though by a giant hand and then downward in severe turbulence. In a very few cases, wings or other crucial control areas of the plane have been broken off, causing a crash. It does not matter that this plane is carrying passengers that include a famous doctor, a big-name lawyer, a well-known preacher of the gospel and perhaps an- other person who had to borrow the money for the ticket to go to a relative’s funeral because he or she was unemployed.

EVERYONE experiences turbulence and rough places  in life. People who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord  have nothing to fall back on, to rely upon to know that everything will work out alright. While Christians are not exempt, from these tests and trials, there is a big plus for the truly born-again “new creature in Christ Jesus.”  We have a confidence and assurance that everything will work out according to the plan and purpose of Almighty God and that since He wants to give us the best gifts and to perfect us into His image and likeness, “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling,” (Psalms 91:10). And, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed upon Thee, because he trusteth in Thee,” (Isaiah 26:3). Here, God promises that if we focus our thoughts and worries in Him, He will keep us in perfect peace.

“For we know that all things  work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose,” (Romans 8:28). So why should we worry and fret?

I remember when just about a month before my first-ever missionary trip, which was to the Philippines, a large airliner belonging to a major airline had a cargo door come open in flight and the resulting sudden depressurization blasted nine people into eternity as they were sucked into the giant plane’s nearest engine and ground to bits. Only tiny fragments of flesh were ever found of those presumably unfortunate people. (Of course, if they were truly born-again, Spirit-filled believers, they went to be with Jesus just that much sooner and so were blessed!)

And then, another plane of that same airline lost a panel from its wing as it flew out of Manila, my destination airport, only about a week before I left for that missionary trip. Several people urged me not to go, partly because of the airplane problems and partly because there was some hostility toward Americans in some parts of the Philippines. But I assured everyone that I knew that I was going in the will of God and that because it was His will and not my own, while I was on it, that airplane would be the safest in the sky because God would sustain it. No devil could stop that plane from delivering me where God wanted me to be at the time He wanted me there. If not, I was confident that I was ready to go to my heavenly reward and to see my Savior face to face! So why should I worry or fear?

The natural, unconverted man sees the turbulence, the hard time, as a hardship to be avoided. The true Christian sees it as an opportunity to become an overcomer, a victor, a winner, a champion.

Pilot panic is a major cause of airplane crashes in turbulent conditions. Usually, just doing those things required to maintain straight and level flight result in safe passage through the turbulence. Over-correcting causes the plane to go out of control.

Want the confidence that can only come from knowing you are “in the same plane” with the Great Creator of the Universe?
When you realize that you have lived to please yourself instead of God and are therefore a sinner, no matter how “good” you are: — that “…all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23). and “…the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord,” (Romans  6:23) . and you are asking, “What must I do?” then you must “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call,” (Acts 2:38,39). “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved,” (Acts 4:12). “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."  (2 Corinthians 5:17).
