Up Way Publications 37th Anniversary

The Bible Apostolic Logo features the golden sun rising from a deep blue morning sky. The Bible as  the one foundation upon which we build and are establishes is marked open by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Creator who so loved us  that He became flesh and dwelt among us, then bled and died to pay the debt for our sins. The golden sun arc doubles to represent the open tomb from  which He arose triumphant. The descending dove represents the coming of the Holy Spirit to us and the flame represents the fire and power of the Holy Spirit in the life of every true believer. When asked if we are Fundamentalist, we are more Fundamental than they. Are we Evangelistic? Very! Are we Baptist? We place a higher value on Biblical water baptism than the Baptists. Are we Pentecostal? We definitely believe in the entire of the Acts 2 experience including that the promise of 2:38 and 39 is to all that the Lord our God shall call. Are we Apostolic? Our desire and goal is to preach, teach and practice that exact same Gospel that Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles taught and would still be teaching if here in person, as we prayerfully try to be their faithful representatives. — Samuel M. Smith, Editor,
Presiding Elder

WASH ME!

Wash Me!

Have you ever driven down a street or highway behind a very dirty truck on which someone wrote the words “Wash Me/” with their finger in the dust or mud?

The truck is perfectly good, mechanically and does a fine job of hauling whatever it is being used to haul, but as it has gone its way, doing its right and proper work, dust and dirt and other road grime has attached itself to the truck so that even though the truck may be almost new, it looks old and unsightly.

Maybe someone does wash the truck and it is all sparkling and clean. Now, it looks nice. but it does not exist just to look nice. A truck, car, bus or any other vehicle exists to be used and even that first time it goes down the highway, even a modern superhighway, dust and exhaust smoke from the highway and other vehicles are pulled into the vacuum caused by the forward motion and before long, an accumulation of the dust, dirt and smoke begin to build up again on the back until again someone can write “Wash Me!” with just their finger in the dust.

As Christians, our lives are a lot like that truck. When we believe the Gospel message and come to the Lord Jesus Christ, ask His forgiveness in repentance and have someone bury our old sinful natures in water baptism in Jesus’ name as the scriptures clearly teach, we are like a brand new truck off the showroom floor. Sparkling clean, waxed and polished. And like the truck, we were bought with a price, the precious blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ, not just to sit and look pretty, but to work for Him. And as we travel down life’s highways, the dust and dirt stirred up by our own passing as well as that stirred up by Satan and other people is pulled into the vacuum and attaches itself to our blind side. As the driver of the truck cannot see the back of his truck as he drives along, we cannot see the dust and dirt that has begun to cling to us.

Now a good, professional truck driver knows he should walk all the way around his rig and inspect it every time he gets out at a truck stop to be sure all the tires are fully inflated and the running gear is all in proper condition, and he should notice if his rig is dirty as well, but how often drivers go and eat or use the rest facilities and climb back into their rigs and go.

<>There was no indication of anything wrong when they pulled in and they are in a hurry to reach their destination. Perhaps they are hauling perishable cargo that must be delivered on time. But the carcasses of truck tires that have blown out along the highway and sometimes the wrecked truck itself are all too strong testimony that probably someone was operating with underinflated tires which could have been restored at the truck stop if the driver had taken just a little more time.

So too the Christian on the road of life. All too often we are so busy doing the Lord’s work that we fail to check our spiritual tires, check for loose bolts, oil and sometimes even our fuel. We are so busy doing the Lord’s work that we don’t take the time to pray, read our Bibles and fellowship with fellow believers. And sometimes, rather than wanting to listen when a fellow believer tries to tell us that one of our tires appears low or a bolt is loose or dirt has accumulated to the point that they can write “Wash Me!” on our backs, we get upset with them for telling us. We’re too busy to worry with such matters. Can’t they see how important it is that we keep pressing onward toward our destination? We have no time for criticism. We’ll be OK until we reach our destination. Don’t they realize we have no time for Bible Study and Prayer Meetings, or maybe even regular preaching and worship services? But that is where the minor repairs that prevent the blow-outs and other mechanical failures in our spiritual lives are illuminated by the Holy Spirit, the Word and fellow believers.

Perhaps we don’t want to go to Bible College to learn more about the Bible and ministry because we are already reaching out to the lost, not realizing that this is like failing to stop at the warehouse to pick up the load we are to deliver. An empty truck is nearly always much more noisy than a fully loaded one and sometimes we equate our ability to shout or preach loudly as proof that we are really doing something for God, while others around us are writing “Wash Me!” in the dust on our backs.

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1) .  He is the one who washes us, in His own blood (Revelation 1:5) and cleanses us by the washing of water by His word (Ephesians 5:26).
