Up Way Publications 39th Anniversary

The Bible Apostolic Logo features the golden sun rising from a deep blue morning sky. The Bible as  the one foundation upon which we build and are establishes is marked open by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Great Creator who so loved us  that He became flesh and dwelt among us, then bled and died to pay the debt for our sins. The golden sun arc doubles to represent the open tomb from  which He arose triumphant. The descending dove represents the coming of the Holy Spirit to us and the flame represents the fire and power of the Holy Spirit in the life of every true believer. When asked if we are Fundamentalist, we are more Fundamental than they. Are we Evangelistic? Very! Are we Baptist? We place a higher value on Biblical water baptism than the Baptists. Are we Pentecostal? We definitely believe in the entire of the Acts 2 experience including that the promise of 2:38 and 39 is to all that the Lord our God shall call. Are we Apostolic? Our desire and goal is to preach, teach and practice that exact same Gospel that Jesus Christ and His Original Apostles taught and would still be teaching if here in person, as we prayerfully try to be their faithful representatives. — Samuel M. Smith, Editor,
Presiding Elder

Your Cheatin’ Heart...will tell on you!

…will tell on you…” the  old song said. And really, that is quite true. The song was speaking of a spouse who was being unfaithful and sooner or later will get caught. The Christian as a part of the church is in the bride of Christ. Is that bride unfaithful where you are concerned? Brother, sister, I want to talk about your own heart deceiving you.

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:9, 10).

As the church, Christians are the "bride of Christ."  Are you cheating on our Wonderful Groom, our Lord Jesus Christ? Often our own hearts will deceive us and we will wilfully sin and think we have done nothing  wrong, but in due time, your cheatin' heart really will tell on you in loss of spiritual power and anointing, confidence in your relationship with the Groom.

We know that God is able to know the very  thoughts and intents of our hearts (See Hebrews 4:12). “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say that we have not sinned, we make hima liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:8-10). Oh
Deceitful Heart!

"My  little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.  And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his  commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. (1 John 3:18 - 22).

Do you go to church on your worship day and pretend to be holy and in right standing with God when through the week you have cheated someone, gossiped about a neighbor, lusted sexually after someone to whom you are not married, knowingly  broken a law, lied or taken possession of something that was not rightfully yours and yet you felt no guilt about it? Maybe your conscience is already seared and your heart deceived. “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; (1 Timothy 4:1,2).

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the  engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and  continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.” (James 1:21 -26).

“But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.” (James   3:14).
"
And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand? Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. (Isaiah 44:19-22).
Some of Jesus’ most scathing criticism was for religious leaders who had deceitful hearts. “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.  Woe unto you,  scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but  within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” (Matthew 23:23-28).
Even before we act on a sinful thought, God already knows that thought and knows whether we are seriously thinking of doing the wrong thing or whether we will be quick to reject the sinful thought and focus back on our love and service to Him.
Friend, no matter what religion you claim or what church you attend you need to pray that the Holy Spirit search your heart and see if there be any wicked or sinful way in you that your deceitful heart has kept secret.

“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.”  (1 John 3:20,21).
